Hermanus & Whale-watching Tour

2 Days ; 1 Night (Seasonal July to November)

Starting and ending the tour in Cape Town, this is a scenic tour to the coastal village of Hermanus, considered to be the best land-based whale watching spot in the world. The majestic and gracefulSouthern Right Whales choose Hermanus for their annual holiday when they come to calve, mate and frolic in our calm, warmer waters. We return via the beautiful Clarence Drive, hugged by the steep mountain cliffs on one side and the vast ocean close on the other side.

Day 1 : Cape Town to Hermanus

  • Scenic Sir Lowry’s Pass with its beautiful views
  • Through Elgin and Grabouw, heart of Apple Country
  • Houhoek Pass
  • Hermanus, one of the top holiday villages in South Africa during summertime, are considered to be the “Whale Capital of the world” . Hermanus provides the best land-based whale watching spot in the world and the intelligent graceful Southern Right Whales, as large as 10 elephants, can be seen up to 20 metres from the rocky shores. Hermanus was voted Town of the Year in the Western Cape in 2008 and is also “famous” for
    • being the town that has the world’s only Whale Crier (like a Town Crier)
    • the cliff paths where one can stroll and spot the whales
    • water sport on the tidal lagoon
    • the annual Whale Festival
    • its clean “champagne air”
    • pristine beaches
    • charming village shops and crafts
  • Optional Whale-watching Boat trip at Hermanus – the registered boats are allowed up to 50 metres from the whales (but the inquisitive whales sometimes come closer…)
  • A stroll through the Harold Porter Botanical Garden with its indigenous flora
  • Fernkloof Nature Reserve situated in the Kleinriver Mountains above Hermanus with over 1600 different plant species

Overnight venue: Guest house in Cape Agulhas, or hotel in Arniston.

Day 2 : Hermanus & walker Bay before returning to Cape Town

 

  • Leisure time and Whale watching in Hermanus
  • Optional Whale-watching Boat trip – the registered boats are allowed up to 50 metres from the whales (but the inquisitive whales sometimes come closer…)
  • Optional Wine Tasting at Hermanus / Walker Bay
  • A stroll through the Harold Porter Botanical Garden with its indigenous flora
  • Fernkloof Nature Reserve situated in the Kleinriver Mountains above Hermanus with over 1600 different plant species
  • Return to Cape Town via scenic Clarence Drive, considered one of the top 10 scenic drives in the world. It hugs the coastline and its magnificent sea cliffs on the one side and is snug against the majestic mountain slopes on the other.
